BACKGROUND:
The Strategic Plan required the library to review and update the Collection Development in June, 2019. We missed it by one month!
The current policy was last reviewed and adopted in 2016, so it is relatively fresh. The librarians reviewed this with me. The primary changes are relatively small. We wanted to tighten the language, ensure that it was in alignmnent with current proactice, and better explained some things about which we have had questions or have seen other libraries struggle with. An example of that is a statement about 'weeding' or deselecting items from the collection. Another example is a statement about what happens to items which are taken out of the collection. These statements are in alignment practices and policies with other libraries and the city of Oregon City. We also updated any statistics stated in the policy and inserted text, mission, values, ets., from our most recent strategic plan as appropriate.
