Title

Design Advice: Solar panels on a historic site in McLoughlin Conservation District - 301 Madison St.

Body

RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion): Staff recommends the Board provides non-binding advice on the placement of the panels.

BACKGROUND:The applicant proposed solar panels on the street-facing roof and is seeking non-binding design advice. The house is located at 301 Madison Street - Rudolph & Augusta Seiler House.

Design Guidelines call for equipment and technology to be minimized in appearance and located at less visible areas. The roof sections where the applicant would like to install solar panels are visible from the street as shown in the applicant's drawings and photos.  The applicant wishes to determine if the Board would find these locations acceptable before moving forward with an application for Historic Review.

The Historic Review Board created the design advice process as a way to interact with applicants at the beginning of the design process. These interactions are at publicly noticed meetings and are entered into the record if the applicant submits for historic land use approval.
