Review and discuss Guiding Principles
BACKGROUND:
Since our last meeting a stakeholders group has been created and landed on dates to convene. Those are: May 21 and May 23, 2018. Both evenings will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., one night at City Hall and the other night at the Library.
Staff has also come up with a draft Vision statement. It is:
To create a thriving, inclusive, and safe gathering place where literacy is championed/supported, curiosity and diversity are celebrated, and transformation becomes possible.
We are still refining it, as you can see from the colored fonts. This will be reviewed with the stakeholders group, but this part was mainly a staff task. The stakeholders group will work on mission, SWOT, service responses and general community input. Eventually, this information will be formed into a draft strategic plan by management staff and brought to the library board for review.
In the meantime, the Library Board indicated last month that they would like to revise the Guiding Principles document which was th eoutput of their work from the last strategic planning process. Last month members stated they would like an entry that discussed quality, a welcoming statement, use succinct language, remind people what we area known for, and add 'operational' language to the customer service statement. The current guiding principles are attached.
