Title

Resolution No. 18-11, Congratulating Downtown Oregon City Association for the Great American Main Street Award

Body

RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):

Staff recommends that the City Commission adopt Resolution No. 18-11 congratulating Downtown Oregon City Association for winning the Great American Main Street Award.

BACKGROUND:

Each year, the National Main Street Center recognizes exceptional Main Street communities whose successes serve as a model for comprehensive, preservation-based commercial district revitalization with the Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA).  Since the award's inception in 1995, over 90 Main Street programs have been honored.

Great American Main Street Award winners represent the diversity of communities in the Main Street America network - small towns, mid-sized communities and urban commercial districts from every region in the Country.  Recipients of this award must demonstrate exemplary achievement in the process of strengthening their downtown and commercial district.

We are excited to report that the honor of the Great American Main Street Award has been bestowed upon our very own Downtown Oregon City Association (DOCA) for 2018.  This is also the first time that any main street community in the State of Oregon has won this National award.  Therefore, staff is recommending that the City Commission memorialize this occurrence by adopting a Resolution congratulating DOCA for winning the award and acknowledging their effort in achieving exemplary status as a Great American Main Street.
