Title
Oregon City Street Lighting
Body
BACKGROUND:
Recent community questions concerning Oregon City’s street light programs and activities have inspired staff to take a fresh look at our light-emitting diode (LED) street light conversion efforts. The City has teamed up with Portland General Electric (PGE) to verify records of street lights, and we have updated our street light geographic information system to better reflect these findings.
Martin Montalvo, Operations Manager, will be presenting inventory and efficiency information regarding the City of Oregon City's street lighting program. Our street light program currently contains both contracted street lighting through PGE and internal lighting maintained and operated by the Public Works Department. In 2013, the City authorized an agreement with PGE to convert the existing PGE owned lights to LED. The City has also recently made efforts in LED conversions of the City-owned street lighting for better benefits with energy efficiency, public safety, and dark sky compliance. The City and PGE improvements result in energy consumption efficiencies, a reduced amount of maintenance, and lower unit rates while at the same time illumination levels around Oregon City continue to meet industry standards and community expectations.
