Title

Engineering Design Contract for Peter Skene Sewer Emergency Repair

Body

Recommendation Action (Motion) Recommendations:

Authorize the City Manager to execute the Contract Agreement with RH2 Engineering, Inc. in the amount of $103,552.00 to provide engineering design services and construction support services for the Peter Skene Way Emergency Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.

Background:

On February 22, 2017, a landslide occurred in the open space north of Peter Skene Way and west of Whitman Way. Approximately 40 LF of 8” sewer pipe was displaced by this slide, resulting in an active sewage spill. Redundant emergency bypass pumps were immediately put into action to redirect sewage around approximately 584 lineal feet of the existing sewer system compromised by the displaced pipe.

RH2 Engineering, Inc. is one of five firms currently on the City's prequalified consultant short-list for Utility Infrastructure Improvements.  The City's consultant short list was was affirmed by the City Commission on January 21, 2015.

On February 24, 2017, City Staff visited the site with RH2 Engineering, Inc. to discuss the emergency repair project and a possible scope for design and construction support.  Since then RH2 and staff agreed to aspects of the work and RH2 has since provided a scope and fee to complete the design, bidding, and construction services for this emergency repair project. The quoted labor rates conform with current agreed upon rates found in RH2’s ongoing oncall services agreement and the level of effort is aligned with the Staff's expectations for the project.
