Title

Willamette Falls Legacy Project Riverwalk Design Concepts

Body

RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):  Staff recommends the CIC provide feedback to inform the project.

BACKGROUND:

Willamette Falls Legacy Project staff will provide an update on the riverwalk design process, with a focus on the design concept drawings that were part of a public workshop on November 17th. It is hoped that this will be a dialogue with the committee rather than a one-way communication. The project team wishes to gather input from the committee to share with the design team.

The riverwalk project’s major goal is to provide people with close-up access to Willamette Falls, which is the second largest waterfall by volume in all of North America, second only to Niagara Falls. The project is expected to be a powerful catalyst for the entire region, the riverwalk is focused on four core values of public access, healthy habitat, historic and cultural interpretation, and economic redevelopment. An internationally renowned team of designers - Snøhetta, Mayer/Reed and DIALOG - has been chosen to design the riverwalk. As part of the ongoing design process, we are seeking broad community input on riverwalk design concepts.

The presentation will cover the following topics:

 - Design concepts for the north riverbank, pipe chase, and clarifier

 - Materiality and experience for explorer trails, the public yard, and the falls overlook

 - Community engagement

 - Project schedule and next steps

 - Q&A
