RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):
Staff recommends the City Commission accept and approve the Canvass of Votes for City Commissioner Positions No. 2, 3, and 4 and ballot measures 3-497, 3-498, 3-507, 3-508, and 3-514 provided by Clackamas County Clerk for the General Election of November 8, 2016.
BACKGROUND:
On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, Oregon City voters cast votes for City Commissioner Positions No. 2, 3, and 4 and for ballot measures 3-497, 3-498, 3-507, 3-508, and 3-514. The Oregon City Charter of 1982, Chapter 6, Elections, Section 27, Canvass of Returns, states in part the following:
"...The results of all elections shall be entered into the record of the proceedings of the Commission. The entry shall state the total number of votes cast at the election, the votes cast for each person and for and against each proposition..."
On the December 7, 2016 City Commission agenda is the Canvass of Votes as prepared by the Office of the Clackamas County Clerk and which is on file with the City Recorder. The Canvass shows the following outcome of votes for the City Commission races and ballot measure.
Total number of votes cast (City of Oregon City): 17,626 of 22,546 registered voters = 78.18%
