Appointment and Application Process for City Commission Vacancy

RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):
The City Commission will discuss the option of appointment to fill the current vacancy of Position No. 3 and provide the staff with direction.
BACKGROUND:
At the June 15, 2016 City Commission meeting Commissioner Carol Pauli resigned from Commission creating a vacancy for City Commission Position No. 3. Section 32 of the City Charter instructs the Commission on filling a vacancy:
Section 32 Filling of Vacancies.
Vacant elective offices in the City shall be filled by appointment. A majority vote of the Commission shall be required to validate the appointment. The appointee's term of office shall begin immediately upon his appointment and shall continue until the next general election and until a successor is duly elected and qualified to complete the unexpired or new term of office as applicable.
The City Commission will need to decide if they would like to proceed with the process to fill the vacancy. The following items are topics for the Commission's discussion and attached to this report are various documents for the Commission's review.
