Resolution No. 15-22, A Resolution Granting a Non-Exclusive Franchise to Comcast to Construct, Operate, and Maintain a Cable System in the City of Oregon City

RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):

Staff recommends approval of Resolution No. 15-22 approving the Cable Franchise Agreement for Comcast and directing the Mayor to execute the agreement.  This franchise agreement includes construction, performance, and general service requirements for Comcast.

 

BACKGROUND:

The last Comcast Cable Franchise Agreement which was executed in 1999 has expired.  This new agreement includes the same fee calculation terms of 5% of revenue on cable services within the City limits and $.80 cents per month, per subscriber fee to help fund public access, educational access and government access (PEG).  The term of the agreement is for 10 years.

 

A franchise agreement is necessary due to the requirements of the Federal Cable Act.

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

Amount:  Approximately $400,000.00 in annual revenue, with an estimate of $60,000.00 a year, for PEG
