Oregon City Sign Code Update (Legislative Planning File: L 14-01)

Body
RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):
Staff recommends that the City Commission hear testimony from any interested party and continue the public hearing for Planning file L 14-01: Sign Code Update to the April 1, 2015 City Commission hearing.

BACKGROUND:
After nearly 20 years without a significant change, Oregon City has been working to review our sign regulations to better meet the needs of Oregon City residents and businesses now and into the future. The Oregon City Municipal Code currently has limitations on the type, quantity, size, and material of signage allowed on public and private property in chapter 15.28.

A comprehensive public process including 35 meetings with the community, Planning Commission or City Commission has resulted in draft amendments to the signage standards in chapter 15.28 of the Oregon City Municipal Code.  The draft code language has been reviewed by the Planning Commission whom recommended approval of the legislative request to the City Commission.  Staff recommends that the City Commission continue the public hearing to April 1, 2015 to allow for two Work Sessions to occur.  A Work Session is planned for February 10, 2015 (to provide an overview of the draft sign code and the process which it was developed) as well as on March 10, 2015 (to discuss enforcement, funding and public education of the new signage standards).
