Title

Municipal Court Judge Merit Pay for Performance

Body

RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):

Staff requests City Commission approval to process a proposed five percent (5%) merit payment based on the Municipal Court Judge’s accomplishments and performance for the past year.  Additionally, staff requests approval to process an additional two percent (2%) salary increase on top of the proposed Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

BACKGROUND:

The Municipal Judge’s annual evaluation was conducted on June 3, 2020 in Executive Session. As part of the evaluation, the Commission discussed appropriate levels of compensation to recognize the Municipal Judge's accomplishments. The Commission reached consensus that a five percent (5%) merit payment for performance was deserved and appropriate. Payment is a percentage of annual base salary. If approved, the one-time merit payment will be processed with the July 31, 2020 payroll.

In addition, the Commission reached consensus to grant Judge McNiece an additional two percent (2%) salary increase on top of the proposed management employee Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).  The COLA presented for approval is three percent (3%) to be effective July 1, 2020.  The new salary will become effective July 1, 2020.

OPTIONS:

1.  Approve the merit payment and salary increase.

2. Change the percentage(s) of the merit payment and/or salary increase.

3. Deny the merit payment and salary increase and bring back for further discussion.
