RECOMMENDED ACTION (Motion):
Staff recommends the City Commission accept and approve the Canvass of Votes for ballot measure 3-423 provided by Clackamas County Clerk for the Special Election of May 21, 2013.
BACKGROUND:
On Tuesday, May 21, 2013, Oregon City voters cast votes for ballot measure 3-423. The Oregon City Charter of 1982, Chapter 6, Elections, Section 27, Canvass of Returns, states in part the following:
"...The results of all elections shall be entered into the record of the proceedings of the Commission. The entry shall state the total number of votes cast at the election, the votes cast for each person and for and against each proposition..."
On the June 19, 2013 City Commission agenda is the Canvass of Votes as prepared by the Office of the Clackamas County Clerk and which is on file with the City Recorder. The Canvass shows the following outcome of votes for the ballot measure.
Total number of votes cast (City of Oregon City): 65,133 of 226,759 registered voters = 28.72%
